Description
To communicate the Gospel message to children and young people in the church and the local area. This will include developing the existing church children and youth programmes and developing local outreach activities.
The role will be aimed at increasing opportunities for young people to be involved in the Church and to grow in their Christian faith.
- The main duties will include:
To build relationships with young people, and to encourage other youth/children's leaders and volunteers. One possible way would be to work with our Shed team doing outdoor work in the churchyard weekly. - To be involved in (and at times, create) the delivery of the programme to the childen and young people in St Anne’s Church. There are 3 groups on a Sunday: 11+, 5-11s and under 5s - each with about half a dozen in them. This is an opportunity to disciple and encourage the children and young people in their Christian Faith.
- To plan a broad range of outreach activities which may include; community/environmental projects, work in the local primary and secondary schools and possibly residential activities (e.g. Soul Survivor).
- To engage with parents and the church leadership to advocate for young people's interests
- To be available, when appropriate, to mentor, coach and support young people within and connected to the church family.
- To work alongside and assist the new incumbent and the PCC to create a new vision for the children/youth work at St Anne’s.
- To take part once a week in the Parent and Toddler Group run by the church bcalled KRASH (Kids Really Are Special Here).
- To support, where needed the childen/youth work in the neighbouring Parish of Longwell Green
- To keep records of youth participation, manage the small youth resources budget and report back to the PCC at least once a year.
Essential Criteria
- Passionate about Children and Young People and seeing them begin and develop a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
- Willing to serve the church, the local chlldren and young people
- Be able to prepare material for and lead small groups
- Build successful relationships with children and young people.
- Organise and manage own time successfully
- Share the gospel clearly with children and young people
- Have basic presentation /up front skills in church meetings etc.
Preferred Criteria
- Able to play a musical instrument
- Have some ability with technology, social media etc.
- Play a sport of some kind
