Course Aims
"Be Transformed"
This is a unique course designed to provide you with a foundation in youth ministry and is a spring board to further youth ministry training and development in SWYM and beyond. It combines youth work, training, and practical experience with challenging teaching that will prepare you to make a difference in this generation.

SWYM Foundation Year Certificate
Engage Certificate - developed by Centre for Youth Ministry to lead to Youth Support Worker Level 3
Entry Criteria
Aged 18+ and a passion to see yourself and others transformed.

Rom 12, 1-2 (NIV) 
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Course Overview

6 out of the following Theory Units will be covered:

Unit 1 - Mission and Evangelism 1
Unti 2 - The Bible, Paul's Letters
Unit 3 - The Gospels
Unit 4 - The Character of God
Unit 5 - Jesus on the Cross		Unit 6 - The Holy Spirit
Unit 7 - The Spiritual Realm
Unit 8 - The Cost of Discipeship
Unit 9 - The Church
Unit 10 - Purity and Holiness
Unit 11 - Worldviews

6 out of the following Spiritual Disciplines will be covered:

Unit 1 - Time with God
Unit 2 - Study
Unit 3 - Prayer
Unit 4 - Fasting		Unit 5 - Meditation
Unit 6 - Simplicity
Unit 7 - Submission
Unit 8 - Serving		Unit 9 - Giving
Unit 10 - Worship
Unit 11 - Solitude

Engage Units:

Unit 1 - Values - working with the core values of Youth Work
Unit 2 - Learning - facilitating Young People's learning, personal and social development
Unit 3 - Relationships - building and sustaining relationships with Young People
Unit 4 - Groups - enabling Young People to work effectively in groups
Unit 5 - Managment - enabling Young People to organise and take responsibility for activities, events and projects
Unit 6 - Practice - working with Young People to safeguard their welfare

Engage has been developed by Centre for Youth Ministry (CYM) to equip Christians for youth work. Completing the Engage course at Level 3 leads to the award of the National Certificate in Youth Work from the National Open College Network and recognition by public authorities as Youth Support Worker.

Our aim is that this year will change your life and give you a sold foundation for being a lifetime disciple of Christ.

In your year you will have the opportunity to serve on local camps and weekends away but there are also opportunities to serve in other nations on a 1-2 week mission abroad.

Placement
Each foundation year trainee will be placed with a church or school based project where they will get the opportunity to reach out to the youth in that context and put into practice the skills and theory they have developed at conference and cluster.
Assessment
Practical and written assessment - the written assessment is usually done through journaling.
Accreditation
SWYM Foundation Year Certificate - required to access other SWYM courses.

Engage Certificate - a publicly recognised national qualification in Youth Work validated by the National Open College Network
Cost
£550 for the year - all you accommodation, living & further training costs will be covered by the Ministry Partner you are placed with.
Course Dates
The course runs yearly and starts in September.
