Project History & Affiliations:
St Pancras is an Anglican church - evangelical and charismatically sympathetic.
We have previously had four SWYM workers covering continuously the period from Sept 2003 who have enabled our youth work project to develop.
Part of the project involves working at the local community college which is shortly to become a Church of England sponsored academy (see http://www.jkcc-academy.org for more details)

Structure & Vision of the Project:
The aim of the project is to encourage young people from age 0-18+ within St Pancras church and its surrounding area to progress in their spiritual journey with the goal of coming to a living faith in the Lord Jesus and then to grow in Christian discipleship.
This is achieved through Sunday groups and midweek clubs. There is a possibility of also having midweek discipleship groups for young people. (Details in section 7)
Additionally we aim to reach out into the local community college where our current SWYM trainee runs a weekly drop-in event. We hope to increase this involvement.
It would be beneficial if we could increase the involvement of our youth with other local churches who also have SWYM trainees whilst retaining our own identity. However this does not happen at present.

About the location of the Project:
The ministry is within the parish of St Pancras, Pennycross Plymouth. This is in a suburb within the City of Plymouth. It is diverse in nature and contains both local authority housing and also some of the most expensive housing in the city. The population is mostly white, british. The parish includes one secondary Community College, one primary school and also overlaps the catchment areas for a number of other primary schools. A fuller description of the area can be found in our Parish Profile which is currently on our website.

About the youth work of the Project:
At present the youth work involvement for a SWYM trainee focuses on the 11-18 age group and would involve:
a) sharing in leadership of the 7's - 14's Sunday morning group with special emphasis on the 11-14 age group.
b) leading the 14's - 18's group (currently meeting on a Sunday evening for fun and fellowship)
c) leading the weekly 11's -14's youth club for St Pancras young people, their friends and young people from the community, providing opportunity for outreach (currently meeting on a Friday evening).
d) sharing in outreach to the local Community College through helping to run the existing weekly drop-in and by looking for other opportunities to minister in the school, through possible R.E. lessons, youth alpha and developing a Christian Union.
e) involving the young people youth in other activities to grow their friendships and faith on an adhoc basis.
f) There may be opportunities to start a youth alpha or other discipleship group
g) We would also be looking for other opportunities to outreach to young people outside the church and to grow the faith of those within the church.
h) We have a part-time childrens' and family worker and the trainee youth worker would need to work with this person in coordinating some activities while working independently in others.
