Project History & Affiliations:
Ichthus Community Church was established over 20 years ago but moved to its present location 10 years ago. It is a charismatic family church linked to the Salt & Light network. (www.saltlight.org/europe). Primarily regarding ourselves as a mission working with families and young people, particularly those who find it difficult to relate to more traditional churches, our desire is to see people not only set free in Christ but live free in a dynamic family which is much more than a Sunday activity. We emphasise unity where each one is valued and loved and involved.
Structure & Vision of the Project:
Ichthus Community Church is led by a team of 6 with Andy & Jenny Heckford taking the lead responsibility. There is a part time youth pastor and a part time childrens worker who coordinate activities leading a team of volunteers. We are looking to establish contacts with those who have no christian heritage or church links so we can build relationship, demonstrate the love and life of Christ and so see the Kingdom of God established in Exmouth and area.
About the location of the Project:
The church lives mainly in the seaside town of Exmouth and its building is located in the town centre. It is an ex nightclub and is a flexible space used for services, clubs, lettings and as a base for the Nightshift street pastors. We also work in the community college as well as 2 of the town's primary schools. There are a number of childrens and youth activities including clubs, discipleship groups and a worship band.
About the youth work of the Project:
We run a youth discipleship/service on Sunday nights with about 18 Christian youth attending age 11-16
We have started a youth worship band with about 9 youth aged 11-16.
We will be launching a youth club for Year 7 and up next year as there is a real need for it. Our children's club is bursting at the seams with a high percentage of them moving up into Year 7. Also we have about 7 younger youth helping with this club that would really like to have their own.
Also we are planning to get involved with the work of ICE in the school in helping with lunch clubs, CU's and detached work
We are also discipling a small number of over 18's and encouraging them in helping with the youth work.
