Project History & Affiliations:
Derriford Church started as a mission hall on the Tavistock road. In 1965 it took the step to move to the newly built housing estate of Derriford including new buildings. At this stage it was an independant Church, in 1967 it joined the congregational Church and then became United Reformed in 1972. It has always had a strong evangelical background and much work with young people.
Structure & Vision of the Project:
The vision of the Church is to seek to be a family friendly Church through welcome, worship and witness. We are at present making witness a higher priority especially through 'Hope o8'.
The church has a Minister, Elders and Deacons. The elders look after the spirtual matters, the Deacons look after the fabric. The church meeting makes the major decisions.
About the location of the Project:
The church is based in Derriford, North Plymouth. It is a private housing estate. However we are also close to Looseleigh and Southway which are a mixture of social housing and privately owned. There has recently been an in crease in the number of children and young people in the area.
We are based about 4 miles north of the city centre.
About the youth work of the Project:
At present we have a youth club (11-14+) on a Tuesday a pilots company (5-14) and sunday groups. At present we ahve about 12 young people aged 11-16 and a smaal group of leaders.
Our Mission Strategy is "To seek to be family friendly Church through welcome, worship and witness." Within this there has always been a strong commitment to young people both within and without the Church.
