Project Type: Multiple Church Organisation
Project Area: East
Project Address:
The Vicarage Rockbeare, Exeter
Postcode: EX5 2EG
Project History & Affiliations:
This is a new initiative. We are a group of 5 Anglican parishes who have formed a Mission Community, with Mike Partridge as Team Rector and James Grier as half-time Team Vicar. We are also joining with Soul Exeter so that it can have a day or so of the worker's time.
Structure & Vision of the Project:
The structure will be that all 5 parishes contribute prayerfully and financially with one church (Broadclyst) taking administrative and financial responsibility. The worker will work across the parishes but with no expectation that they will be getting bums on seats (or pews) in any of the churches.
The worker will be line managed by James Grier but might well share an office with Mike Partridge.
Our vision is to engage with our two secondary schools and try and grow ministry in them. It is also to connect with local youth with some or no church contact
It is also to work with Soul Exeter in it's monthly celebrations and wider ministry
About the location of the Project:
Across Broadclyst, Pinhoe and Rockbeare (the team also covers Clyst Honiton and Sowton but youth are rare there!)
Also the city centre and Exeter College for the Soul Exeter part
About the youth work of the Project:
St Luke's School - Mike is a governor and we've been asked to offer chaplaincy and help with collective worship for one of the school's 5 houses
Clyst Vale Community College - many local youth go there, but we have met with Stuart McKay (Baptist minister) who has strongly established work in the school and would appreciate all possible help
Rockbeare youth - James has strong relationships with a group of lads and girls that hang around in Rockbeare and has taken 3 of them to FNX
Pinhoe youth - there is a lot of attention on a group who hang around in Pinhoe a couple have parents at the church.
Soul Exeter - this has always had a day a week worker helping with it - in terms of communication and relationship with the youth. Also helping set up and lead the monthly event
Exeter College - currently a SWYM worker helps with the CU, we are keen to pursue what other work can be done, in however limited a way.
