Project History & Affiliations:
Christ the Rock was planted in the new housing estates of Yate in 1983. By 1985 the church had grown to about 20 members of all ages and the decision was taken to 'go public' by moving the Sunday morning meeting from a home into a newly opened community centre in South Yate.
The following years saw great tests of faith, but also great blessing as the church continued to grow. Some new members came as a result of evangelism, some as a result of people moving into the area and settling in Christ the Rock, and some were people who had been travelling into Bristol to church but who now took the decision to join a more local fellowship. When the adult membership totalled 100, 50% were either new Christians or people who had recommitted their faith.
After an unsuccessful attempt to develop into two separate congregations in the early 1990's Christ the Rock regrouped as one Sunday morning congregation meeting in Yate International Academy Secondary School. Since then growth has continued to the point where today the church consists of around 200 adult members plus another approximately 100 children and young people.
The history of Christ the Rock's development has been an exciting time in which we have seen God move in quite marvellous ways in many people's lives.
Christ the Rock is an independent local church but we highly value being part of several enriching and supportive networks of churches and individuals. These include:
Fellowship with the local churches of Yate and Chipping Sodbury
Mutually supportive relationships with the Celebration Network of churches in the Greater Bristol region.
Within this network we especially value the support of Rob Scott-Cook (Woodlands Church) and Dave Day (Bristol Christian Fellowship)
A long-standing relational link with Ichthus Christian Fellowship in London. Arising from this link we have a valued continuing relationship with Ken McGreavy who was for many years on the leadership at Ichthus
Evangelical Alliance - we are members of this national covering body and subscribe to their statement of faith (see the link to their website)
Structure & Vision of the Project:
There are three things that we want to define us as 'church'. They are:
Absolute devotion to Jesus
The individual value
Individually developing our relationship with God by following Jesus in the power of the Spirit
Bold commitment to one another
the family value
Valuing and serving one another as we enjoy being the family of God
Complete dedication to making Jesus known
the whole-life value
announcing and demonstrating the Kingdom of God in every area of lives, individually and together, locally and around the world

About the location of the Project:
We are located in the town of Yate, and linked with the market town of Chipping Sodbury all within North Bristol. The town is quite unique as we are far enough away from the city of Bristol to be separate - however close enough to be involved in all that's happening.
For more information on are area see: http://www.yateonline.co.uk
