If you are interested in starting a youth work project or are looking to appoint a youth work, please first contact your Area Co-ordinator. This will enable SWYM to work with you to offer support as you realise your vision and heart for your community. This passion to reach out to young people can cause potential Ministry Partners to set up their project as soon as possible. This is understandable, however it is vital that some preparations are first made, for example, a long-term strategy will give the youth worker a goal to aim towards.
Many organisations will attempt to manage and run every thing for you, this is not what SWYM does. SWYM works with its partners from the outset, so that we may grow together in ministry, and seek the best way to run your youth work. By working through key issues such as: Why you want a youth worker; Management of youth workers; Support for youth workers; and Strategy for reaching young people; SWYM will enable you to form a solid foundation for youth work at the very start of your project.
Once the basis for your youth work project is in place, and all the relevant management structure is set up, SWYM will work with you to find the right trainee for you to appoint. This person will be directly responsible to yourselves, and then once appointed SWYM will aid you in the line management and support of the trainee. The SWYM training takes 8 hours each week, with the trainee attending Conference every two months; the rest of the time is dedicated to hands on youth ministry.
It is important to note that SWYM is not just a recruitment agency for works or churches to employ cheap labour. Nor is it merely a training agency to justify the employment of cheap labour. It is crucial that a Ministry Partner places an emphasis on supporting the Trainee that they employ. Problems can arise when Ministry Partners simply want someone to do the job and are not willing to invest in the person.
