Project History & Affiliations:
This is joint project between the Benefice of Stoke Canon and Silverton Evangelical Church. It has been running for 6 years. The churches are passionate about being relevant to young people and joined together to employ a youth worker.
Structure & Vision of the Project:
Although the 396 project covers four local villages the children attend either Clyst Vale Community College, Stoke Canon Primary or Silverton Primary Schools. With the help of a youth worker we long to see young people connected to a church where relevant activities would be held for them and their families to see that Jesus is alive today!
About the location of the Project:
We are a rural community located outside Exeter.
About the youth work of the Project:
At present there are two youth clubs Stoke Canon ( school years 5 and 6 and year 7 +)
Silverton has one youth club for years 5 and 6 but plans to start another one for year 7 +
Our present SWYM worker visits all three local schools where he has been doing classroom support and observing assemblies. We would like to see more of this in the future. We also wish to use the new centre at Stoke Canon Parish Church and be involved in connecting with young people on Sundays. Silverton Evangelical Church has a growing number of families in the church and we see potential to involve them more. We have also encouraged children to attend the SWYM camps (Spree) and Devon Youth Camps, (there is huge potential there too!!)
