Job Description:
MAIN DUTIES

To pastorally care for, socially encourage, morally challenge and spiritually inspire the young people of Preston baptist Church.

To acknowledge and subscribe to the Mission Statement of Preston Baptist church - " Seeking gods Heart, Serving the Community"

To assit in the running of all existing clubs/activities.

To attend and participate in supervisory, management and planning meetings as required.

To work with existing leaders and helpers to develop new vision and strategies for the youth programme of Preston Baptist Church, over the short, medium and long term.

To work with existing leaders and helpers to implement these new visions and strategies.

To work with existing leaders to plan, organise and promote a residental experiance for young people (e.g. Soul Survivor).

To participate in planning and taking all-age services.

To be responsible for young people participating in the all-age services.

To work with exsiting leadrs and helpers to promote the youth work activities of the Church within the local community and local secondary schools.

To ensure that Health and Safety and Security protocols are complied with ensuring that all activities are safe and legal.

To exercise up-to-date knowledge and where necesaary undertake training in Child Protection, Health and safety and other areas required.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

To establish relationships with the Church's children - especially those coming in the Youth Work Programme within the next few years.

To build on and develop existing relationships with other youth groups/youth leadrs in Torbay.

To build on and develop existing relationships with LiNX Christian Youth trust within their secondary schools work.

Essential Criteria:
A personal Christian Faith.

A good sense of humour.

Previous experiance of helping within a Church-based youth work setting.

A passion for seeing young people grow in faith.

The ability to lead, encourage and organise.

The ability to be led and to work within a team.

Communication and relational skills with children, young people, adults and families.

Good written communication skills.

Prepared to live in the local area.

Preferred Criteria:

Previous experiance of organising and facilitating Church-based youth work.

Experiance of successfully managing Church worship services.

A current driving licence.

Good IT skills.

A gifting in creative arts or a musical gifting.

Project History & Affiliations:
Baptist Church, approximately 80 years old, current membership of 130 members with 2 ministers in post since September 2006.
Approximately 90 children attend our thriving pre-school and toddlers group. The Church has an excellent relationship with Linx Christian Youth Trust, who work within the secondary schools of the Bay.

Structure & Vision of the Project:
Preston Baptist Church is served by a Leadership Team comprising of Ministers, elders, Deacons and Action Team Leaders.

Our Church mission statement is " Seeking Gods heart, serving the community".

We strive to be an accessable, welcoming Church to all age groups, who place a desire to serve Christ as central to everything we do.

About the location of the Project:
Preston is a seaside holiday resort - part of the English Riviera, situated between costal towns of Paignton and Torquay. With a mixed socio-economic population there are several large secondary schools in the surrounding area.

About the youth work of the Project:
Current youth work consists mainly of Sunday Junior church and a youth club for 7 - 14's, an over 14's group runs as is pratical.
We would like to reach out and draw in the youth of the local community allowing regular Discipleship for the young people, so they may grow in their faith and communicate this to their peers.
