Project History & Affiliations:
Members of our church had increasingly felt that we should be reaching out to the young people of our community, rather than just engaging with those who came to the two church youth groups. To that end we decided to take on a SWYM trainee, and whilst that placement ended early the work that the trainee did has encouraged us to take on another trainee to carry on with the work with the young people in the community.

Structure & Vision of the Project:
We are seeking a trainee who is enthusiastic about working with unchurched teenagers and with secular youth workers, currently employed by the parish. We see this as our opportunity to reach these young people where they are and to bring "church" to them. The parish youth workers have been happy to work with the church on this and we appreciate this opportunity to work together.

About the location of the Project:
South Brent is a large village (pop.3000) on the edge of Dartmoor but within easy reach of Plymouth, Totnes and Exeter. In addition to St. Petroc's, there are a catholic and a methodist church in the village. South Brent is a vibrant community and a popular place to live, particularly with those who enjoy outdoor activities.

About the youth work of the Project:
There are currently 2 church youth groups for 9 to 15 year-olds, with approx 25 attending each session and we are looking at the possibility of starting a younger group.
Work with young people in the village is very important and we have hopes for an alpha course, informal worship, music, etc. with those whom we are trying to reach out to.
