Project History & Affiliations:
Hooe Baptist Church is a member of the South West Baptist Association. The original Church building was erected in 1876. An additional structure was completed in 2001/02.
The present Minister has been in post since September 1999.

Hooe Baptist is a charismatic, evangelical church on the sout east edge of the city of Plymouth, and is in ecumenical relationship with all the other Christian Churches in Plymstock. Ian Provost from St Johns is the Chair of Christians Together in Greater Plymstock.

Structure & Vision of the Project:
Hooe Baptist church has the following strap line: "To know God, to serve Him, and to make Jesus known to all."
The Purpose statement reads: " To serve both the local and wide communities by - explaining what the Christian faith is; demonstrating its relevance today;helping people to know Jesus; encouraging spiritual and emotional growth in an atmosphere of friendship, love, support, understanding and prayer."

The leadership of the church consists of a diaconate an pastor, with the authority of the church members meeting understood as the decision-making body. A strategy Group assits the pastor with vision-seeking and deeper intercession and spiritual gifts for the benifit of members and friends alike. House Groups and Alpha groups are held every week and through these groups the majority of the church attends for Bible study, prayer and support/fellowship. A considerable investment is made by the pastor and his wife to reach out into the community and local schools and community groups every week. A large percentage of the church activities involve children and young people.

About the location of the Project:
Hooe Baptist Church is located on the suth eastern edge of Plymouth in a distinctive area known as Plymstock. Though dubbed a 'leafy suburb' it has 27% elderly, areas of deprivation, and others areas of middle to upper class affluence. A collection of individual villages without very distinctive boundaries makes up Plymstock.
It is clearly a dormitory area for Plymouth, and even beyond to places such as Totnes, Exeter, etc.

About the youth work of the Project:
Through the auspices of SWYM and Christian Resources Project we have managed to support our first full time youth trainee -David Lbby and his wife and children - since their arrival in August 2005.
Due to the fine efforts of David we now have many inroads into the lives of young people in the two secondary schools that serve Plymstock.
