Job Description:
Chard Churches Together (CCT) are looking for someone with previous experience to work on their behalf with young people in the local secondary school and churches.
- Work with the RS department to input into the teaching programme
- Arrange visiting speakers from the churches and church visits as required
- To raise awareness of Christian spirituality and the work of the Christian churches through:
- Supporting the RS department
- Formation of a CU
- Supporting and developing existing and new extra curricular activities
- Informal networking of a pastoral nature in breaks and lunchtimes
- Developing links with year 6 primary school students to help in the transition to secondary school
- Rooted in one of the churches, but make regular visits to all the churches and give updates of their work
- In the future possible development of a chaplaincy role within the school
- Develop good relationships with churches and Youth Centre; facilitating links with young people and churches
- Being a part of planning and running inter-church youth events
This is an exciting project which CCT took on 3 years ago to meet a perceived need in the town. God has greatly blessed this work and we now need someone who can build on what has been achieved and move it forward with imagination.
This is a paid job and shared accommodation will be found. The ecumenical spirit in Chard is very strong. They will be accountable to a line manager and take full advantage of the support that SWYM provides and be disciplined in their use of work, study and free time and in relating to a spiritual mentor (spiritual director).
They will study with SWYM towards gaining a degree in Theology or an MA in Missional Leadership which will be hugely beneficial to their work and future.
Essential Criteria:
- Enthusiasm and a sense of calling to minister to young people.
- Ideally have had experience of working in a school environment.
- An ability to effectively communicate with young people.
- Have a strong personal Christian faith with a passion for God and the bible.

Project History & Affiliations:
This is a project which the eight churches of Chard planned over several years to reach the young people of Chard. It came to fruition two years ago with Ryan working in th local secondary school and in the youth club. Despite initial problem with the school Ryan has established god working relationaships and the best work is being done there.
Structure & Vision of the Project:
A management commitee oversees Ryan and is responsible to the Cjard churches together. The eight churched are kept informed mainly through Ryan's news sheets and reports from CCT representatives. It is our hope that now Ryan has successfully pioneered this project wee can employ another youth worker when he departs
About the location of the Project:
Chard is a small town set in Somerset countryside. There is one secondary school which draws young people from the surrounding villages. There is a youth club and various church young people
About the youth work of the Project:
Youth ALPHA weekends away.
We hope to develop youth worship from the occasional services that take place and also to be a resource to small isolated young peoples groups in the villages.
