Clarification of Schools Work

You will see that some of the placement information uses the term ‘Schools Work’. For those coming from overseas this may need a little explanation.

Christian schools work is educational support mixed with spiritual mentoring. The purpose of this is to serve the educational establishment and to demonstrate the values of the Christian faith to the young people, staff and parents. As a part of this service it may be appropriate at times to share about our faith in Jesus as well as to be an accepting support and link to activities and groups outside of education.

Purpose

• To be a reliable friend and positive role model in school and community.
• To offer Christian support to the local educational services in the mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and social development of young people.
• To provide a communication link between school and church for young people.
• In these ways, to demonstrate the love of Christ to school age young people.

How it can be done

• Promote prayer for the college, its students and staff.
• Promote culturally relevant events which communicate understanding of the Christian faith.
• Demonstrate the love and compassion of Jesus Christ to the staff and students of the community college by providing practical support, pastoral care and facilities.
• Support the community college in the social, emotional and spiritual development of young people.
• Be an effective link between young people and the local church.
• Demonstrate a Christian lifestyle within the community college.
